  • Bangalore Customs

Guys all my recent orders(About 5 of them split into orders of around $30 each) are stuck with Bangalore customs. I have received call notice for 3 of them from Office of Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Postal Appraising Department, GPO Post Office. They have asked for all invoices and paypal statements.

Question to this group - any easy way to get this sorted out without having to run around. Can I just email them the receipts or would going to their office be recommended. Any other recommendations?

Unfortunately, you have to visit the office and show them the details, depending on the mood of the superintendent, he will ask you to pay customs and get it cleared, you will also have to wait on that place.. It's further down Josephs from brigade road.. No easy way out

        Re: Bangalore Customs

Thanks guys. I went there and provided the invoices + paypal statement. Was charged 35% + 3% under some head + 4% under some other head = 42% customs duty. Have been told the Postal department will bring this to my place in a couple of days and collect the duty.

Is 42% the correct custom duty rate, cause from what I have read on the forums it is usually between 20% - 30%. Is it higher in Bangalore and is there some official guidelines on the duty to charge?

Anyways happy I will be finally getting all the pending orders

Ah bro .. don't mix hardware and eliquids in the same package. They stop the packages for eLiquids but your hardware goes for a ride too :/

                Re: Bangalore Customs

                Hi Ozzybl,

42% is always the flat rate they apply from my experience when there's some electronic item they don't really identify, that's the max in that category. Nothing specific to Bangalore.
Why 42%? The structure is so complex it's impossible to understand, unless you're a specialized lawyer or something like that.
42% of what? The global estimate for the whole parcel, including shipment. Eg, mech mods, drip tips, wire, or even cotton can hardly be considered as an electronic item, but they do.

In my case they almost always overestimated it, so i ended up paying often 60% or even 80% in few cases. So, in your case that's not a bad deal.

On the other hand, some parcels got through without tax, specially in the winter ??? . So globally, i don't complain about taxes anymore... i'm just happy when i get my parcel, somehow.

Finally, as Andy mentioned, split your parcels by category when possible. Besides the problem with liquids, i think batteries are taxed less, for example.

Bangalore isnt bad. Its in the corner near Chutney Chang. Meet the guy with a print out of fast tech or photoshop w/e he doesnt care. All they want is a lil bribe and they will ask u to write a letter saying it was a gift from someone your know and is for personal use. That's it item will be cleared and postman will deliver. Been buying other items from China for many years now, so its become standard procedure.
